Monreagh visit for Orange Chief
The City Grand Master of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge made
a visit a fortnight ago to the Ulster Scots Museum in Monreagh as part of
his ongoing tour of cultural sites.
Victor Wray met the curator, Frank Carey for a personal tour of the facility,
which is dedicated to all things Ulster Scots.
"I was very well welcomed by Frank and Jim Devenney, the chairman of
the facility. This charming building used ot be the Manse for Monreagh Church,
but it has been very sensitively transformed. Each of the rooms has been
lovingly restored to its former glory, yet there is also a computer suite
which people can used to investigate and research thisr ancestry and Ulster
Scots heritage," said Victor.
The City Grand Master is now planning a visit to Liverpool for a conference
with the Grand Lodge of England, Scotland and Ireland.
"The aim of the conference is to examine every aspect of the Orange
Order and see if there is any way we can improve the outreach and cultural
understanding of the Orders and make them more relevant and accessible to
people today," he said.
In the future Victor is also planning to try and visit Australia where he
hopes to attend the Grand orange Council of the World.
"The last meeting of the World Council was in 2009, so there is just
over a year left to save," he chuckled.
